There are some things to consider before filing for divorce in Fresco County California. To start with you must be a resident of California for six months and a resident in Fresno County for three months.  In Fresno, California, you are in a "community property" state, which means that assets and debts acquired during your marriage will be divided equally when you divorce. But not all property is considered "community property." For example, any assets you had before you married will be considered "separate property" if you kept that property separated from property acquired during the marriage.

Other things to consider during your divorce are alimony and child support payments and the courts in Fresno County will take every effort to consider all parties involved when deciding the outcome to these factors of the case.  In Fresno a court can order alimony, which is called "spousal support" in California. Additionally, the court can make custody decisions based on what is in the "best interest" of the child, but will do so only if the partners can't come to an agreement between themselves. These are just a few of the pronouncements that will occur during the divorce process and many decisions will be made by the court in Fresno County, however, your attorney is there to assist you through the process.
